Places to See
Following on from 'The Gathering Ireland 2013' Linkedin page, comment 'Where in Ireland is your best place to holiday?' here are some of the suggested places to visit around Ireland.
René Böll (Boell) - For me its Achill Island !
Margaret Moran - My favourite part of Ireland is County Mayo. I spend a good bit of time in Castlebar and Westport. The scenery is beautiful, the people are warm and friendly. Enjoy the history of Croagh Patrick, the beauty of Achill Island, the Irish language spoken on Clare Island and the great pubs and music in Westport.
Brian O'Donoghue - Dún Chaoin (Dunquin) Co Kerry, sitting on a hill looking out on the Blasket Islands just before sunset on a fine July evening, hearing the low gutteral sound of Gaelic speakers in the distance.
(as well as my first preference -Dun Chaoin (Dunquin) Co Kerry) my second preference ....it is at the end of the pier at Dun Laoghaire early evening in September, with the sun shining through a slight mist . Looking back towards the Dublin Mts the village sometimes seems to shimmer, like an Impressionist painting.
Peter John O'Connor - I can't understand why West Waterford is always left out of the equation - it has everything Ireland has to offer - plus being 1 hour from Cork, Cashel and Waterford.
I moved here in late 90's having travelled Ireland as a young musician then, the world - frankly I think you're all missing the best.
Mary Ringis - The Dingle area or Barrow Strand in Co Kerry are magical spots of great beauty...
Ursula Hogan - Mountshannon in East Clare is a great place to holiday on the shores of Lough Derg - The Pleasure Lake with all the facilities, boating, fishing, trip to Holy Island & just off the Harbour we now have 2 White Tailed Sea Eagles & their 2 baby chicks that are visible in their nest now that's a rare treat you wont see very often!! Pretty well maintained village with great restaurants & lively pubs & very welcoming people. Only 40 mins from Shannon airport an ideal base to tour from!! Come & see for yourselves!
